STEPHEN R. SCHULTZ, PHD, MPH
Founder and Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Schultz is the founder of HNT. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Human Physiology. He also earned a MPH in Nutrition from University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Schultz worked as Research Fellow at UC Berkeley and UCSF Medical Center with emphasis on human nutrition. In the early 1980s, Dr. Schultz left academia to work directly with people who needed nutritional counseling. With over 30 years of experience in the field, Dr. Schultz has extensive knowledge about weight loss, and a large network of contacts with leading researchers and physicians around the country. His experience with meal replacement formulation and development is second to none. Dr. Schultz started HNT in 1994.
Chief Executive Officer
Hannah has worked in the preventive medicine field for fourteen years. She started with HNT in 2003 with a background in leadership development and program management. She thrives on the opportunities that small businesses provide to wear many different hats. Her expertise is in operations and planning. She enjoys working with HNT partners to help them achieve their goals. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Max and Marion Caldwell Foundation. Additionally she volunteers as an Alumnae Admissions Coordinator for Smith College and as a State Captain for the Medical Fitness Association. Hannah is passionate about wellness and teaching kids to cook and eat healthy food that tastes great. From 2010-2011 she had the opportunity to consult with the Chez Panisse Foundation to improve access to edible education nationwide. Hannah earned a B.A. from Smith College which included a year of study at The London School of Economics. She holds a MBA from the University of San Francisco. She is a Pilates enthusiast and aspires to teach Pilates when she retires.
DOUGLAS CARNEY, MD
A well-known and respected local physician, Dr. Carney practiced Internal Medicine for 26 years at the Salem Clinic. He is a diabetologist and served as the President and Board Chairman of the Oregon Diabetes Association from 1986-1989. Because of his special interest in obesity treatment, Dr. Carney founded the Weight Management Program in 1991 and has supervised it since its inception.
SHEILA HENSON, R.D.
Program Director – Indianapolis
Sheila is a Registered Dietitian and is certified by the American Dietetic Association in Adult Weight Management. She received her undergraduate degree from Goshen College (Goshen, Indiana) and participated in the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences/ Veterans Administration Dietetic Internship (Little Rock, AR). Before coming to HNT, Sheila established the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Weight Control Program. Prior to this, she and her husband owned and operated a fitness center. In 2001, Sheila founded the HNT clinic in Indianapolis, IN and has maintained a successful practice there ever since. She has worked with over a thousand patients in Indianapolis to help them achieve their weight loss goals. As our lead dietitian and a member of our management team, Sheila ensures that the HNT program adheres to the latest dietetic information.
